Saul Cervantes

Saul is from the Antelope Valley in Northern Los Angeles County. He earned his B.S. in Statistics and Data Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Since graduating, he has applied his analytical skills to ecological restoration and conservation. Through the Watershed Stewards Program—a partnership of the California Conservation Corps and AmeriCorps—he served at the North Coast Regional Water Board, supporting salmonid restoration with data and spatial analysis. He later interned with Trout Unlimited, where he collected and managed hydrological data at over 100 sites across Northern California.

At Sonoma State University, Saul works in the Coastal Ecology and Conservation Lab with Brent Hughes, focusing on the Estuarine Marine Protected Area long-term monitoring project (EMPA). As an American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) diver, he also contributes to a variety of lab projects, including kelp restoration. Outside of work and school, Saul likes snowboarding, rock climbing, and backpacking.
